By the time of Washington statehood, Thurston County boasted more than three dozen logging camps. Cutting had started in earnest in the thick forests of the Black Hills. On the slopes above Mima Prairie, one such logging camp became the timber company town of Bordeaux. At its peak, Bordeaux boosted a population of over 400 workers. As the available trees grew scarcer, the town was dismantled and disappeared forever in 1941.
