Recycle Your Christmas Tree
Curbside and Drop-Off Locations
(Dec. 2009/Jan. 2010)
 

Rules for Recycling Trees

  • Remove all twine, ornaments, stands, tinsel and nails. Flocked trees are ok.

  • For curbside programs, trees over six feet need to be cut in half.

  • Multi-family complex residents should check with their property managers for tree placement locations, or use the drop-off locations underlined below.
     

  • No limbs, boughs, greenery, and other yard and garden items will be accepted. These items may be taken to the Yard Debris Site at the Waste and Recovery Center, where regular rates apply (a minimum $8 charge applies).

Christmas Tree Collection Schedule

  • All Thurston County residents: Trees are accepted free of charge from Dec. 26 - Jan. 9 (except Jan. 1) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Waste and Recovery Center, 2418 Hogum Bay Road N.E., Lacey.

  • Pacific Disposal/LeMay organics/yard waste customers: Place trees in, or next to, the organics bin (no sections longer than 3 feet). 

    If you are not signed up for organics/yard waste service with Pacific Disposal/LeMay, please place your tree out on the regular garbage collection day, next to the garbage bin. The tree must be cut into sections no longer than 3 feet, and a $3.33 fee applies per each section. (The cost per section in Yelm is $3.35 and in Rainier, $4.15.)

  • Lacey residents: Call City of Lacey Public Works Department at 491-3214 for more information.

  • Olympia garbage customers: City of Olympia garbage customers should place trees in their regular cart location for free curbside collection. Customers with Thursday or Friday garbage service should put trees out by 6 a.m. on Jan. 9. Those with Tuesday or Wednesday garbage service should place trees 6 a.m. on Jan. 16.

  • Rainier residents: Take to the drop box at 13010 Rainier Acres Road from Dec. 26 - Jan. 9 (open Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Trees are free of charge during these dates only.

  • Rochester residents: Take to the drop box at 16500 Sargent Road from Dec. 26 - Jan. 9 (open Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Trees are free of charge during these dates only.

  • City of Tumwater residents: Households should place trees at the nearest street corner by 8 a.m. on Jan. 11.

  • Tenino residents: Take to the corner of McClellan Street and Sussex Ave. from Dec. 25 - Jan. 9.

  • Yelm residents: Take to Yelm City Park any time between Dec. 26 and Jan. 10.

  • Shelton: Bill McTurnal Enterprises at 721 Kamilche Lane accepts trees from Dec. 28 - Jan. 9during daylight hours.
