Thurston  County  Juvenile  Court

Work Crew Rules

Work crew hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  You are expected to report to Family and Juvenile Court before the start time and be prepared to begin work at 9:00 a.m.  If you are late or are not prepared to work on time, you may be sent home.  In such case, you will be reported to your Probation Officer as non-compliant for that day.  If you leave early or leave the work crew or work crew site at any time without the crew supervisor's permission, you will also be reported as non-compliant.

A one-half hour lunch break will be taken at about noon.  You must bring a lunch with you to participate in the work crew.  You will not be allowed to go to a store during the day, nor will the crew as a whole go to any store.  If you are participating in the work crew from detention, a lunch will be provided for you.  One shorter break will be taken about mid-morning and at about mid-afternoon when the crew decides it is time.

You must come dressed appropriately for the weather.  The work crew will be outdoors in all weather conditions.  Wear hard-soled shoes or boots and adequate clothing for comfort and dryness.  You may not wear shorts.  Clothing with inappropriate words, pictures, symbols, etc. will not be allowed.  Failure to come appropriately dressed or coming in appropriate clothing will result in your being sent home and be reported as non-compliant.

Use or possession of tobacco products of any kind and/or lighters, matches, or any other incendiary device is prohibited while on the work crew. Do not bring these items with you to the work crew.  While on work crew, you may not possess any objects which might be considered weapons. This includes any type of knife.

If you are using any medications while on work crew, you must report this to the crew supervisor at the start of the day before beginning work.  If you must take any prescription medication during the course of the day, it must be in the container in which the prescription was filled.  No other drugs may be possessed or used during the course of the work crew.  If you have any injury while on work crew, you must immediately report it to the crew supervisor.

Never pick up any of the following items: firearms or other weapons; explosive devices including fireworks; injured, dead, or lost animals; medical waste, including syringes; suspected hazardous waste. If you discover any of these things, immediately report them to you crew supervisor.

You must follow all directions of the work crew supervisor.  Any failure to do this, or any fighting, threatening, or aggressive language or actions, excessive horseplay, sexual harassment, ethnic jokes, profanity, safety violations, or poor work performance will result in your dismissal from the work crew and a report to your Probation Officer of your non-compliance.  Any actions taken which are violations of the law will be reported to law enforcement for appropriate response.

If you are participating in work crew from detention, or while you are on EHM (Electronic Home Monitoring), and you are dismissed from work crew for violation of these rules, you will be taken into detention.  If you fail to report for or are dismissed from work crew and thereby end up in detention, you will be place on Level 1 in detention, and you will remain on that level for a minimum of the first 7 days you are there.

Both you attitude and performance on the work crew will be evaluated by the crew supervisor and reported to your Probation Officer.
