Highlights from the 2010 Washington State Trends Report:

  • About one in eight Washington 12th graders used prescription pain relievers to get high in the past 30 days.
  • One-fifth of Washington 12th graders reported being drunk or high in school in the past year.
  • Robberies of Washington pharmacies have increased seven-fold since 2003.
  • By 12th grade, over 40% of Washington students have tried marijuana. In 2008 the number of 12th graders who reported having tried methamphetamine declined to under 6%.
  • Washington State has among the highest rates of non-medical use of prescription pain relievers in the Nation.
  • By 12th grade, almost 1 out of 5 Washington State students is already a problem Drinker.
  • Washington state has a higher property crime arrest rate than the nation.
  • Methamphetamine Laboratories and Dump Sites in Washington State was at its lowest point in more than a decade in 2008. However, in 2009, the  number of labs increased to 186 from 153.
  • In 2009, 38% of individuals assessed and found in need of treatment by the Department of Corrections reported methamphetamine as their primary substance of abuse.
