The Department is responsible for administering the Workforce Investment Act with its partner, the Workforce Development Council, in the five-county workforce investment area:

Grays Harbor County
Lewis County
Mason County
Pacific County
Thurston County

It is the responsibility of the Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council, in partnership with the Boards of County Commissioners (Thurston County is designated lead county), to carry out the activities authorized by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. The Purpose of the Act is:

  • To increase employment, job retention, and earnings of participants.
  • To increase occupational skill attainment by participants.
  • Improve the quality of the workforce.
  • Reduce welfare dependency;
  • Enhance the productivity and competiveness of the region.

The RETC seeks to deploy a learning management system to provide virtual learning capabilities as a standalone service or integrated with hands on training activities for its existing and future customers.

Cohort Training

The Pacific Mountain Workforce Consortium recently negotiated with our area community colleges to increase capacity of course offerings. As a result, the following training opportunities were added:

South Puget Sound Community College: 

  • Certified Nursing Assistants

  • Beginning Automotive Certificate with addition of Alternative energy

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) Technology (Energy Efficiency Training)

Grays Harbor Community College:          

  • Medical Records Office Assistant

  • Energy Technology

  • Certified Nursing Assistant

Centralia Community College:                 

  • Industrial Readiness

  • Welding Certification

  • Nursing Assistant plus Phlebotomy and Allied Health Pathways

  • Medical Assistant

  • Office Assistance/Customer Service

  • Automotive Maintenance/Energy Technology

  • Entrepreneur Institute

Olympic College (Shelton Campus):        

  • Medical Coding and Billing

These training programs can be accessed through any WorkSource office in our area.  Individuals receiving training will be Dislocated Workers, Economically Disadvantaged Adults and At Risk Youth.
