part of the fun in the first annual Trail Day Walk sponsored by
the Capitol Volkssport Club. Volkssporting (sport of
people) is an adventure in health, recreation, fellowship and
fun consisting of non competitive events.

Celebrate Thurston County's 156th and Olympia's 150th Birthday!
Be part of the fun as Thurston County Historic Commission and
the City of Olympia sponsor a day at the Washington State
Archives! On Saturday, May 16, the Washington State Archives
will open their doors for tours and public viewing of state
documents. Two sessions are offered during the day, 9:30 - 11:30
a.m. or 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Space is limited to 40 people per
session. Events include viewing documents of the early days, a
presentation on how local towns, streets, and lakes got their
names, and a tour of the Archives. Refreshments will also be
served. This event is free and is brought to you by the Thurston
County Historic Commission and the City of Olympia, and is
hosted by the Washington State Archives. For more information,

Prairie
Appreciation Day

Join
us by celebrating Western Washington's prairies at the Glacial
Heritage Preserve. This annual event showcases the wonders
of this rare 1000-acre ecosystem. An interpretive 5-mile trail
provides panoramic views of the prairie. A shorter activity
trail with information booths cover aspects of prairie
restoration, management, wildlife and wild flowers. Many of the
booths include activities geared towards children, so please,
bring the kids. No services are available so bring water, lunch
or snacks.

be part of the fun with a 10K, 5K, and 1 mile run (or walk) on
the Chehalis-Western Trail. This annual event begins and ends
at Horizons Elementary in Lacey. Post race refreshments
of potato soup and bagels provided. Take part in the
"Going Green" contest by wearing the most
green! May
