The Hearing Examiner conducts a quasi-judicial proceeding and issues decisions and recommendations on land use cases and administrative appeals in Thurston County. Decisions by the Hearing Examiner are subject to appeal to the Board of County Commissioners and/or Superior Court, based on the record established before the Hearing Examiner. The Hearing Examiner is an attorney appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

The information contained herein is intended to provide a brief description of the Thurston County Hearing Examiner process and is designed to assist those who participate in the land use decision-making processes. The Hearing Examiner process is described in more detail in the Thurston County Code and Rules of Procedure. Copies of relevant ordinances are available from the Office of the Hearing Examiner.
