Structures Built Prior to Permit Guide

For public water system
In order to obtain a septic system permit or building permit, applicants must prove they have source of water.  This is accomplished by supplying a "Certificate of Water Availability Form."

Non-Residential Fire Code - SA 008
  

This form is to apply for a fire code permit, which is required for many types of non-residential operations.  See the guide to the right for a list of examples. Form SA 008 requires applicants to also supply project-specific checklists. Select from the following checklists:

Fire Alarm (SA 009) Check to see if alarm system is used for fire flow credit. If so, complete coverage is required. Fire Alarm System Requirements Guide
Fire Sprinkler (SA 010)
  
Fire District Approval Form(must be completed by local fire district before a sprinkler permit is issued.)
Sprinkler systems are required for:

  • Commercial structures per International Building Code Chapter 9. (The Building Code applies to structures other than one and two-family dwellings and townhomes -- ie, commercial)
  • In Olympia, Lacey Tumwater urban growth areas if the building is more than 7,500 square feet
  • In the rural area (ie, outside urban growth areas) if the building is more than 12,000 square feet.
  • As a trade-off for fire flow or type of construction.
