The County implements development standards and restrictions on building in flood hazard areas. These standards protect residents and property from flooding, and they preserve floodplains as a natural means of flood control. Floods are the most common natural hazard in Thurston County, and, on an annual basis, the most costly. River, stream and groundwater flooding are the most common.
