Barn Documentation Project

barnThe Thurston County Historic Commission has begun a Historic Barn Documentation Project to capture and preserve the history and memories of barns remaining on the landscape of Thurston County.  Historic barns are local landmarks which make the past the present for many citizens in our local region.

Step One:

SELECT A BARN DISTRICT -  Focus on one or more sections of the County by district.  If you would like to work with the Historic Commissioner Team Leader in the district you select, contact the staff listed at the bottom of this page.  Your name and information will be given to the Team Leader of the district you chose and you will be contacted to work with that Team.

Step Two:

USE THE FORM AS A GUIDE - Print out the Barn Documentation Form to assist you in documenting barns.  For additional information in filling out the form click here.

Step Three:

SUBMIT THE INFORMATION - Barn documentation information can be submitted using the online form, or by mailing the completed form to:

Cami Petersen
Resource Stewardship Department
2000 Lakeridge Drive SW
Olympia, WA 98502

Step Four:

PHOTOS - Please submit all documentation and/or historic barn photos on a photo CD to the address listed above.  Clearly mark all photos to show the barn they represent.  Photos submitted will be added to the documentation database and may be used during the documentation project.  The submittal of digital photos allows the Historic Commission the right to display the photos online and to use the photos for documentation purposes.
