2009-2010 Comp Plan Amendments (Docket)

On September 7, 2010, the Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution No. 14401 with annual amendments to the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan, and Ordinance No. 14402 amending the Thurston County development code. A notice was published in the Nisqually Valley News on September 24th. Please read below for details.

Background

Thurston County provides “early and continuous” public participation when making changes to the Comprehensive Plan and the development regulations that implement it. Annually, the public is invited to participate in the County’s “docketing” process, where proposed amendments to the Plan or regulations are listed and prioritized for the following year’s work. (The County also has a docket for changes to its development regulations.)

The public is often a source of suggested changes to the Plan or regulations. In addition, county staff regularly organize public forums, committees, task forces, and meetings with community organizations to discuss amendments. Finally, every proposed amendment to the Plan or development regulations has at least one formal public hearing to gather public comment. 2009-2010 Comprehensive Plan Docket

At the beginning of each year, staff prepares a list of proposed amendments for the Board of County Commissioners. The Board analyzes the merits of proposed amendments based on state mandates, county priorities, joint planning, and public comment.

The 2009-2010 Official Docket of Comprehensive Plan Amendments was approved on June 9, 2009 by the Board of County Commissioners.
