Public Meetings
The
Board
of County Commissioners approved shellfish protection district ordinances on December
17, 2001. The ordinances set up two shellfish protection districts: Henderson
Inlet, and Nisqually Reach. Stakeholder groups were then appointed to craft
plans on how to restore water in the two watersheds to meet shellfishing
standards.
In June 2003, the stakeholder groups submitted
water-quality cleanup plans to county commissioners. (Click
here to read the plans.) The
stakeholder groups recommended to Thurston County commissioners that
their two committees be combined as an oversight board in the future.
In March, 2005, the stakeholder groups
submitted a joint work plan to implement the cleanup plans.
