Brad Watkins |

Undersheriff Brad Watkins grew up in the Shelton/Mason County area and graduated from Shelton High School in 1981. He attended college at Western Washington University and Pierce College prior to entering law enforcement. In 1984 he began his law enforcement career with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy, graduating from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s Basic Law Enforcement Academy in January 1986. In April 1987 he began working for the Centralia Police Department as a Patrol Officer, then became their first D.A.R.E. Officer, and had his first experiences as a relief supervisor.
In April 1989 Undersheriff Watkins began his career with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office when he was hired as a Patrol Deputy. Since that time he has worked in a variety of assignments and progressed through the chain of command to his current rank of Undersheriff. His career with this office started as a Deputy, followed by the positions of Corporal, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Detective Lieutenant, Detective Captain, Patrol Captain, and finally his current position as Undersheriff.
Undersheriff Watkins has also been involved with specialty units within this office as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Explorer Program Advisor, and Crisis Negotiator. He served on the Pierce College Criminal Justice Advisory Board for over five years and is involved with numerous professional and charitable organizations.
During his off-duty time Undersheriff Watkins enjoys spending time with his wife Kris and their two sons. He relaxes by working in his yard, spending time with friends and family, watching movies, and vacationing.
