Sheriff Dan Kimball
 
Sheriff Dan Kimball has been affiliated with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office since 1983, when he joined as a reserve deputy. A native of Port Townsend and a graduate of Washington State University, he joined the office as a full-time deputy in 1985. Sheriff Kimball has worked as a detective, a sergeant, a lieutenant, a captain and a chief deputy, prior to being elected to Sheriff, beginning January 1, 2007.

During his career, Sheriff Kimball has been involved in many community-wide partnerships to improve service to the public. Some examples are having served as an executive board member of the Vulnerable Adult Task Force, an executive board member of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Task Force, a member of the AMBER Alert Web Portal Project, a member of the team that helped to create and implement the county-wide domestic violence investigative protocols, as well as numerous other collaborative projects. Sheriff Kimball is also a board member for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Thurston County, the Drug Court Community Foundation Support Board and the Key Leader Council for TOGETHER! He is a past board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Thurston County, as well as a past member of the Olympia Junior League Citizens Advisory Council and the West Olympia Rotary.

Professionally Sheriff Kimball is a member of the Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs (WASPC), the Washington Sheriffs Association, the Western United States Sheriffs Association, the National Sheriff’s Association and the Washington – Oregon Lawman’s Association. He also serves as the co-chair of the WASPC Legislative Committee and is a member of the WASPC AMBER Alert committee. 

Collaborative efforts and a commitment to continued improvement in the quality of service provided to the public are of primary importance to Sheriff Kimball. He is a firm believer in the need for governmental agencies to partner with the community in an effort to make those agencies truly reflective of people they are sworn to serve. Sheriff Kimball is a strong supporter of the agency vision statement of “Creating a Safer Community Together.” He believes that our community changes for the better when we work as partners towards common goals.

When not at work, Sheriff Kimball enjoys spending time with his wife Vicki, their five adult children and six grandchildren. He is also an avid reader of history and a regular runner.
