Thurston County Sheriff's Office

A Message from Sheriff Dan Kimball
Sheriff Dan KimballI am honored to serve as your Thurston County Sheriff.  The vision statement that I have put in place for the Sheriff’s Office is:

“Creating a safer community together.”

I believe this is an important statement and that these five words say a lot about how we in the Sheriff’s Office can better serve our community in the area of public safety.  Please let me take a moment to explain.

First, the word “creating” is active, not passive.  I believe that we should always be looking at new ways to solve problems that may otherwise seem insurmountable.  We should anticipate problems and work towards viable solutions rather than waiting for the potential problem to get worse.  I will expect my office to be proactive in preventing and fighting crime in our community.

Second, the word “safer” is also important.  Compared to many other counties, Thurston County is a safe community in which to live – but I believe it can always be made safer.  As long as there are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as many other types of crimes, we have work to do.  As a community we cannot accept the fact that one of our children turns to a life of drug use and crime.  We must all be committed to making our community safer by protecting all of our citizens.

The last word of this vision statement may be the most important one: “together.”  This means working together as an agency; but also in conjunction with other entities in the criminal justice system, emergency services and social service agencies, non-profit organizations, our schools, the business community and most importantly with you, the citizens of Thurston County .

I firmly believe that a community is only as strong and healthy as the sum of its citizens.  We have a great community with many wonderful people making a positive difference every day.  We also have great men and women working at the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office who are also committed to doing the right thing for their community every day they put on the uniform.   As your Sheriff I too am committed to this philosophy and I am very excited about our community’s future.  Please join with me in making Thurston County the best county in our state to live and to raise a family.

Sincerely,

Daniel Kimball
Sheriff of Thurston County
