2015 SALARY RANGE:   $3,667 - $4,464/month

Provides a variety of specialized legal, technical, and administrative support services in the Sheriff’s Office under general supervision. Work involves a variety of support services tasks providing timely, reliable, and accurate information; researching information, processing a variety of records, logs, court documents and other paperwork, entering, validating, and correcting information in various computer systems. Employees provide assistance to the public, law enforcement and court employees and perform various office support work in person, over the phone, and through written correspondence.

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills are essential in handling sensitive issues including interaction with individuals who may be angry or hostile. Travel to meetings and site visits around the County is required. Exposure to a variety of weather conditions may occur while driving or conducting site visits. Incumbents may be required to work early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.


  • Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to read, write, and speak the English language as required by RCW 41.14.100.
  • Minimum age of 21 years at time of appointment.
  • Must meet Thurston County Civil Service Pre-Employment Screening Standards.
  • One year of related college course work and two years of work experience in a legal, law enforcement, or administrative support field. Experience may substitute for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Acceptable scores on Civil Service skills examinations.
  • Must meet the Sheriff’s Office Employment Standards and be willing to submit to and pass a thorough background investigation to include a polygraph examination and psychological evaluation.
  • Type 60 words per minute with 90% accuracy.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and related software packages to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to fax and copy machines, microfiche readers, and calculators.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Lifting records and reports may be required, usually not in excess of 50 pounds.
  • May be required to move objects weighing 70 to 150 pounds occasionally.
  • May be required to deliver items and operate county vehicles.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to operate stationary and portable radios.
