Waste and Recovery Center at Hawks Prairie

The Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center (WARC) is a one-stop location where residents can dispose of garbage, yard waste, recyclables,  hazardous household waste, and more!

Hours and location

Monday through Friday: 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Entrance gates will close at 4:45 p.m. daily beginning July 1, 2014.

Closed: New Year's Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Open on all other holidays.

The north entrance leads to the paid disposal areas. The south entrace leads to recycling, hazardous waste disposal, and donation areas.

Rural Thurston County residents may find the Rainier and Rochester drop boxes more convenient.

You must call (360) 867-2491 to make an appointment at least 12 hours before disposing of asbestos. Learn more about asbestos requirements.

Refrigerated appliances: add a $18 handling fee to the regular garbage rate.

red arrow Payment: The WARC accepts cash, checks, debit cards and credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only).
All transactions are rounded to the nearest dollar. Scales determine weight in 20-pound increments. All rates include 3.6% state refuse tax where applicable.

red arrowPhoto ID: Anyone entering the paid disposal area of the WARC must present photo ID at the tollbooth.

red arrowRemember to cover your load. Washington State law requires that all loads be secured. Loose loads that are not covered may be charged a 50 percent litter surcharge.

  

Free recycling and reuse services

  • Recycling drop-off at the recycle center. This area is for residents only - businesses must subscribe to recycling collection service.
  • Household hazardous waste disposal. Residents can bring toxic household products such as cleaning supplies, and oil-based paints to HazoHouse for free disposal. See a list of accepted materials.
    Open: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance gates will close at 4:45 p.m. beginning July 1, 2014.
    This service is only free for residents - businesses must register and pay a fee.
  • Donation station. A Goodwill Industries collection center accepts used clothing and household items. There is also a box to donate used books.
  • Recycling for electronics covered under the E-Cycle program. Residents can recycle TVs, computers and monitors, laptops, tablets and E-readers free at the WARC. Learn more about the E-Cycle program.
