Located on Hogum Bay Road, the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center is a one-stop campus where residents can dispose of garbage, yard waste, recyclables and dangerous household chemicals.

New! Photo ID Check to Enter WARC

Photo IDs are now required when entering the WARC. There are several forms of acceptable ID for WARC access:

Option A: Valid driver's license

OR

Option B: Vehicle registration or a current utility bill

*PLUS*

Valid photo ID, such as a military ID, work ID, credit card with photo, or Costco card

New! The Waste and Recovery Center no longer has extended hours in the summer.

Hours (all year):

Monday to Friday - 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Waste and Recovery Center is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and July 4th. It is open on all other holidays.

Rates

The Waste and Recovery Center accepts cash, checks, debit cards and credit cards. Please click here for rates.

Directions

The Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center (formerly known as the Hawks Prairie Landfill) is located at 2418 Hogum Bay Road N.E. in Lacey.  From I-5, take Exit 111, head north on Marvin Road, and turn east onto Hogum Bay Road N.E. The facility entrance is to the right. (Google map)

Services Offered at the Waste and Recovery Center

  • Garbage disposal. (Residents of Rainier or Rochester might wish to use garbage drop boxes instead of driving to Lacey.)
  • Yard waste disposal. The waste is trucked off-site to be turned into compost.
  • Recycling blue bins. Click here for more information.
  • Disposal of toxic household products. The HazoHouse area collects household hazardous wastes such as cleaning supplies and paints. HazoHouse is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday only.
  • Goodwill Industries: A Goodwill Industries collection center is located at the Waste and Recovery Center site.
  • Closed Loop Park: Located near the entrance to the Waste and Recovery Center, the award-winning Closed Loop Park features a walking trail, a demonstration garden of native plants, and a playground made from recycled materials.
  • Off-Leash Dog Area: An Off-Leash Dog Area is located at the entrance to the Waste and Recovery Center. See the Parks Department website for more information.
