Compost (Food & Yard Waste) Options in Thurston County

Compost Collection Service for Residents

curbside organics serviceResidents who are signed up for curbside yard waste service can place leftover food scraps and food-soiled paper in their yard waste carts, along with the usual grass, leaves and branches. Yard waste carts are now called "compost carts" to reflect their new role in reducing waste.

Simply keep a container in the kitchen to collect food scraps and food-soiled paper, and then empty the container into your compost cart (not your recycle cart).  All of the materials are composted at Silver Springs Organics in Rainier.

If you already have curbside yard service ...you're set to go. If you're not a yard waste customer, contact the hauling company that serves your area for information. If you live within the City of Olympia, click here.

IMPORTANT: Place food and yard waste into your yard waste cart -- not your comingled recycle cart.
