How to Prepare Recyclables for Curbside Service

Curbside recycling is easy in Thurston County. Simply place all your recyclable materials (except glass) in your recycle cart. Glass should go in a separate, durable container between 5 and 20 gallons in size. (If you still have the three colored bins from the former recycling program, you may use those for glass.)

Yes, Place in the Cart

Only the items listed below go in your recycle cart. Remember:  When in doubt, throw it out.

This list may be different than what you've seen in the past.  These changes are based on a study done by a regional group of local governments, haulers, recycling facilities, and manufacturers that use the recyclables.

• Aluminum & tin cans
• Pots & pans
• Newspapers
• Paper bags
• Paperback books
• Magazines, catalogs & mail (windows, staples & sticky notes ok)
• Cereal & food boxes
• Phone books
• Cardboard (flattened)
• Plastic bottles, jugs & jars (neck must be narrower than the base, no lids or caps)
• Dairy tubs & yogurt cups
• Rigid plant pots (empty, no dirt)
• Plastic buckets (must be clean, no lids or handles)
• Glass - put in a separate container that you provide.  Container must be between 5 and 20 gallons in size with drain holes in the bottom to prevent rain from filling up the container.  Glass containers that have water in them may be left uncollected.
