Storm and Surface Water Utility

Thurston County Capital Facilities Projects

Thurston County Stormwater Capital Facilities Projects

Each year, the Thurston County Storm and Surface Water Utility designs and builds projects to reduce flooding, pollution and erosion caused by stormwater runoff. The projects are financed by the Storm and Surface Water Utility's "capital rate."

Projects may involve replacing failing drywells and catch basins (storm drains), building stormwater ponds, installing "infiltration galleries," or installing separating devices that remove pollutants. (See "A Non-Engineer's Guide to Stormwater Terms" for descriptions of these approaches.)

When deciding which projects to approve, Thurston County commissioners often draw from the recommendations contained in basin plans. The projects are then included in Thurston County's "Capital Facilities Plan."
