Report Illegal Dumping

Graphic courtesy NYC Environmental ProtectionThurston County's "Nonpoint Source Pollution Ordinance" (Article VI of the Sanitary Code) makes it illegal to dump animal waste or hazardous chemicals down storm drains in Thurston County. Businesses and individuals who dump materials down storm drains are subject to a civil fine of up to $513 per occurrence.

Pollution Hotline Numbers

To report illegal dumping in storm drains, call the Hazardous Waste Hotline number below. Common investigations involve:

  • Illegal dumping of used motor oil.
  • Unsafe storage of hazardous waste drums.
  • Spills that contaminate soils, water bodies or ground water. 

Immediate attention is given to cases that represent a threat to public health or the environment, or are in violation of the Nonpoint Source Pollution Ordinance.
