A brief description of the Lake Lawrence Restoration Project Final Dredge and Disposal Design Report, 1995

This project was presented in two phases:

Phase 1 addresses the removal of the hypolymnetic sediment (sediment under water 12 feet deep or greater), the primary sediment source of internal phosphorus loading.

Phase 2 addresses the removal of the nearshore organic sediment.

Volume 1 of 2 -- Develop preferred in-lake restoration alternatives that meet these criteria:

  • Reduce phosphorus loading by removing specific areas of phosphorus releasing sediment..
  • Provide staged restoration plan that may be implemented in increments
  • Provide the greatest reduction in phosphorus loading by most practical method.
  • Minimize adverse impacts to the lake community.
  • Improve lake access by removing nearshore sediment.

dredging report coverVolume 2 of 2 -- Examines potential treatment alternatives:

  • Dredging anoxic sediment to native soil
  • Capping anoxic sediment
  • Combination of dredging and capping anoxic sediment
  • Dredging or capping anoxic sediment with lake alum treatment(s)

Environmental Impact Statements

Both the draft and final Environmental Impact Statements for the Lake Lawrence Dredge Project identify and discuss minimizing and avoiding environmental impacts associated with implementing the dredge project.

Draft Environmental Impact Statement dated September 1996

To reduce the time it takes for viewers to download and view the draft EIS,  we have saved the statement as two smaller PDFs.
