How to Prepare Materials for Recycle Blue Bin Sites

Thurston County's drop-off recycling bins accept:

  • Newspaper
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Tin and aluminum cans
  • Mixed paper
  • Plastic dairy tubs (such as yogurt, sour cream and margarine tubs) and plastic bottles and jugs that have necks that are narrower than their base.
  • Milk cartons and drink boxes
  • Corrugated cardboard

Please be sure to follow the label instructions on the boxes. Click on the thumbnail image to see the label instructions that are posted on the boxes. (For a PDF instead, click here.)

Note:  All materials should be placed loose into the blue bins.  There is no need for paper or plastic bags, in fact, these contaminate the load of recyclables.  Also, if you go to a site and find that one or more bins are full, PLEASE do not leave your materials on the ground or elsewhere.  Either come back another time, or try one of our other locations.

Gently used clothing is also accepted at all of the blue bin sites. Clothing taken to the Rainier, Rochester and Summit Lake sites goes to Northwest Center.  At the Lacey site, clothing should be taken to the Goodwill station.
