Solid Waste and Recycling
Recycling
Construction and Demolition Debris

Job
Recycling is as Easy as 1-2-3
1.
Identify
recyclables. Plan ahead! Identify what can be recycled from your
site. Check the chart for alternatives to costly landfilling.
2.
Choose a recycling method. You can hire a hauler or self-haul.
If self-hauling, be sure to contact the facility ahead of time.
Describe your materials carefully and check hours, fees and
special instructions. If you hire a hauler, describe your
materials, specify they are to be recycled, and ask where the
material will be taken. Otherwise, the hauler may take materials
to the closest or cheapest option, which could be the trash!
3.
Decide whether to separate or not separate. Mixed construction
and demolition waste can be recycled, but the charges for
separated materials are generally lower. You will need to take
transportation time and distance into account to find the right
decision for you. Communicate with your workers and
subcontractors and mark bins or collection areas clearly to make
sure materials are placed in the correct spot. Keep recyclables
free of garbage or they may not be accepted at the recycling
facility, or they may be charged at a higher rate.

debris. Please call before taking any materials to the facilities, and
describe exactly what you have. Certain restrictions or requirements may
apply and some items require specific permits from various agencies.
There is a charge to recycle certain commodities, but the cost is
usually lower than trash disposal rates. You may even receive payment
for certain items.
