Before delivering materials, please contact these organizations directly to verify prices (if any) and hours of operation. Thurston County maintains this list as a courtesy to the public and does not endorse or guarantee the quality of the service offered or provided.

Remember that you may also be able to post your items on and other materials-exchange Web sites. Rules and restrictions vary by site.

Flocked trees are accepted. Please remove all ornaments, lights, stands, and tinsel from trees prior to recycling. Multi-family complex residents should check with their property manager for tree collection locations. City of Lacey residents: Local Boy Scouts will pick up trees within city limits on January 6. Place trees curbside by 8:00 a.m. Donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 5379, Lacey, WA 98509 c/o Boy Scout Troop 222 or done online at Contact City of Lacey's Public Affairs at 360-491-3214 or for information. City of Tumwater residents can place trees at the nearest street corner by 8:00 a.m. on January 8. Tenino residents can take trees to 418 S. Wichman St from December 26 - January 15. Yelm residents can place trees in designated dumpster to Yelm City Park anytime from December 29 - January 15, or until full.

Service Providers

City of Olympia

For customers with Tuesday/Wednesday service, tree pickup will be on January 6. For Thursday/Friday service, pickup will be on January 13. Place tree in regular pickup spot by 6:00 a.m. Trees over 6 feet must be cut in half. Call 360-754-8340 for more information.

LeMay yard/food waste customers: place your tree in or near your yard/food waste cart (in sections 3 feet or less). Extra fee(s) apply for customers not signed up for yard/food waste collection. Call 360-923-0111 for information.

Thurston County Rochester/Rainier Facilities

Rainier residents: Take trees for free to the Rainier Drop Box Facility at 13010 Rainier Acres Rd. from December 28 - January 13 (open Friday - Saturday only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Rochester residents: Take trees for free to the Rochester Drop Box Facility at 16500 Sargent Road from December 29 - January 13 (open Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Thurston County operates two drop box facilities to make it easy for residents in south Thurston County to dispose of garbage and recyclables. The boxes are located in Rainier and Rochester. For more information, visit this web page.

The Waste and Recovery Center (formerly known as the Hawks Prairie Landfill) is a one-stop campus where residents can dispose of recyclables, trash, and household hazardous wastes. For more information, click here.
