Weddings and Marriages

Thurston County District Court judges perform marriage ceremonies at the courthouse Monday through Friday at 5:00 p.m. Marriage ceremonies can also be held on weekends or at other venues.

• Marriage Licenses
  • The license must be submitted to District Court 24 hours before the date of the wedding.  There is three day waiting period before it is valid for use, so you will need to obtain the license at least four days before  the wedding. For more information on how to obtain a marriage license contact the Thurston County Auditor’s Office or call 360-786-5405.
• The wedding fee (cash only) and the license must be delivered to the court at least two days prior to the ceremony.
• Two witnesses (at least 18 years of age) are required to be present.  You may bring anyone over 18 or the court can provide witnesses for weddings at the courthouse.  See the Fee Schedule below for the cost of court provided witnesses.
• Everyone attending the wedding should arrive at the courthouse by 4:45 of the date of the wedding.
• If the wedding is held somewhere other than the courthouse, a map to the wedding location must be provided at least one day before the wedding.

    • $80 Monday – Friday at 5:00 p.m.
      • optional $20 per witness
    • $180 Saturday & Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
      • optional $50 per witness
    • $200 Holidays or holiday weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
      • optional $60 per witness
        
  • Wedding away from the courthouse in the Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater area
    • $200 Monday – Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
    • $200 Saturday & Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
