The Family and Juvenile Court Family Court Investigator is a staff employee appointed by the Court in specific cases to investigate and make recommendations regarding parenting plan disputes. The Family Court Investigator holds a Masters Degree and is trained as a Guardian ad Litem. The Family Court Investigator is appointed in cases in which one or both parties are unable to pay for a Guardian ad Litem. The Court may order a contribution by either or both parents for the costs of the Family Court Investigator’s work.
The Family Court Investigator’s work is limited by the number of cases she can be assigned each month. For other parties who are unable to pay due to indigency, the Court may appoint a Guardian ad Litem at public expense if the budget allows.
