Maytown, Washington, date of photo is unknown.
Maytown was settled in the mid-1870s by Joseph Shelley. There are two "stories" about how Maytown got its name. One story gives credit to a Mr. Isaam Noe who is said to have named the town after his former home town of Maytown, Kentucky. The other story gives credit to Joseph Shelley who, after platting the town in 1910, is quoted to have said, "Well, it may become a town, or it may not, so I'll call it Maytown."
