About Chief Heidi Thomsen, CGFM, CFE - Financial Services Bureau

Heidi was born and raised in Olympia. She graduated from Washington State University in May 1992 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She started her government career with the U.S. Forest Service in 1992 and later with the state of Washington in 1995. Heidi began her state career as a Clerk Typist at the Department of Natural Resources, eventually working her way up to Budget Manager at the Washington State Patrol. In 2014, she was appointed by Sheriff John Snaza to the position of Senior Management Analyst. In 2016, Sheriff Snaza appointed her as Chief of the Financial Services Bureau.

Heidi’s primary responsibility is the development, coordination, and maintenance of the Sheriff’s budget, which also includes administering grants and contracts. Heidi also manages and directs the office’s entire accounting and financial functions, and she plans, organizes, and supervises the work of assigned staff.

On May 15, 2018, Heidi earned her Certified Governmental Financial Manager (CGFM) certification. On September 27, 2018, she earned her Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification.

Heidi enjoys running marathons and ultras, hiking, travelling, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.
