About Chief Heidi Thomsen, CGFM, CFE - Financial Services Bureau

Chief Thomsen was born and raised in Olympia. She graduated from Washington State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She started her government career with the U.S. Forest Service in 1992 and later with the state of Washington in 1995. Heidi began her state career as a Clerk Typist at the Department of Natural Resources, eventually working her way up to Budget Manager at the Washington State Patrol. In 2014, she was appointed by Sheriff John Snaza to the position of Senior Management Analyst. In 2016, Sheriff Snaza appointed her as Chief of the Financial Services Bureau.

Her primary responsibility is the development, coordination, and maintenance of the Sheriff’s budget, which also includes administering grants and contracts. Chief Thomsen manages and directs the accounting and financial functions, and plans, organizes, and supervises the work of assigned staff.

In 2018, Chief Thomsen earned a Certified Governmental Financial Manager (CGFM) certification and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification.

During her off-duty time, she enjoys running marathons and ultras, hiking, travelling, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.
