If you need dirt for a projects, sign up for The website matches residents, businesses and contractors that want dirtfill with contractors who need to dispose of dirt. (Residents get one free listing;contractors pay a fee to subscribe.) In the listing, residents state whether they want free dirtfill or are willing to pay for it. Contractors then contact them via phone or e-mail to make arrangements. This approach is ultimately less expensive for the contractors because they don't have to pay to transport the dirt long-distance and pay landfill fees. Plus, residents can get dirt free or at reduced rates. The toll-free number is 888-DIRTFILL (888-347-8345).
